Last year, Ryan and I went to New York Comic Con and took a few days to toodle around the city and it was really super good fun. That was in February and after that we just kind of got busy and we kept delaying taking a "real" vacation. We put it off until the year was nearly over. My vacation days at work are use-it-or-lose-it and they have to be redeemed by December 31st, so I ended up taking a bunch of days off in between the Christmas and New Year holidays. Nice, but not a vacation.
So we started 2008 whining "we need a vacation" and we determined that we were going somewhere (anywhere) for four or five days. Someplace away from home, maybe somewhere warm, Hawaii? Mexico? YES! And, again, vacation got delayed and delayed and delayed and OH GUESS WHAT? IT'S NOVEMBER.
So I bit the bullet. Determined not to go into the 3rd week of December with 12 vacation days remaining, I booked us a vacation. Hallelujah! The first week of December, Ryan and I will be embarking on our first ever cruise. Hoorah!
Our ship travels out of Port Everglade in Fort Lauderdale, FL and we'll be staying in Ft. Lauderdale for one night before departure and one night after. So if you've got any tips for things to see in ol' Ft. Lauderdale - fling 'em at me! I'm so excited, I can't even describe it. A full week off from work. A cruise. Sun, sea, sea gulls. Buffet dining. VACATION!

With one day in Fort Lauderdale, check out the Mai-Kai if you're at all interested in Tiki stuff. Some photos from the restaurant... :-)
